How do I know if I have the latest firmware?
By default the router keeps its firmware up to date automatically by checking in with our Vivint firmware server every day between 2-4am and installing firmware if an update exists. You can see the firmware version on the Status page:
To keep this firmware update service running properly, check the Administration tab in the Firmware Upgrade section and make sure that the 'Disable Automatic Upgrade' box is not checked
Is this an 802.11ac router?
Yes, this dual-band router uses the following Wi-Fi standards:
- IEEE 802.11a/n/ac for 5 GHz
- IEEE 802.11b/g/n for 2.4 GHz
Is this a true dual-band router?
Yes, the Vivint router broadcasts simultaneously on 2 separate frequency bands: 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. These are 2 separate networks. By default these 2 bands broadcast identical Network Names (SSIDs) “VivintXXXXX” where XXXXX is the last 5 digits of the serial number.
Since the router’s 5 GHz and 2 GHz network names are identical by default, most devices (smartphones, laptops, etc.) only show one access point found. If you would like to control which network your device is joining, you can change the network names by following the steps here.
Where are the antennas on this router, and can I use a different type of antenna?
The Vivint Router uses a 2x2 MIMO wireless design with two internal dual-band omni-directional antennas. Because these are internal antennas you cannot use a different antenna on the product.
Can I use OpenDNS with the Vivint router?
Yes, if you have an OpenDNS account, use these settings on the Setup tab to use OpenDNS:
- Static DNS 1: 126.96.36.199
- Static DNS 2: 188.8.131.52
- Static DNS 3: 184.108.40.206
Where do I find the Internet IP Address and MAC Address of the router?
The Internet (WAN) IP and MAC Addresses are found on the Status page:
Is there a product manual?
Yes, download the Product Manual on the right, which contains info on Specifications, LED behavior, Port descriptions and a general overview of the product.
How long does the router take to start up?
The router boots up and is ready to use in 1-2 minutes. The power LED flashes during start up process, then goes solid when the product is ready to use.
